Torsion is a system in itself. It is the combination of the saddle, pad and girth that form the total system.
All Torsion products are rigorously tested by Torsion Italy and have past quality tests.
Not all treeless saddles are made the same. Torsion treeless saddles differ from other well known treeless brands as they are constructed differently. Although some models look similar, the construction and materials are different, therefore they should not be regarded as the same.
Each Torsion treeless saddle is hand-made by Torsion Italy. Each Torsion pad and girth are hand-made by Torsion Italy. This is not a factory. It is a true saddle maker where each product is examined for quality and conformity.
NOTE: we recommend the use of a breastplate with all Torsion saddles like with any other treeless saddles. We recommend the use of a Torsion pad with your Torsion saddle because the pad and the saddle form the system and ensure the best possible combination for your horse. The Torsion pads have been tested with the Torsion saddles and as such, provide the best results.
Seat size: depends on the rider’s weight. Unlike other brands, the size of the seat is not concerned with the length. The size is based on the rider’s weight for optimum weight distribution over the horse’s back. The size should always be one size higher than a treed saddle. So if you are riding in a 16” treed saddle, your Torsion saddle should be 17”
Torsion saddles are available in 14", 15", 16", 17", 18" and 19" depending on the model.
The pommel is not interchangeable and does not come in different sizes. The function of the pommel is to give the saddle stability to avoid slippage and is not concerned with the size of the withers or the shoulders. Torsion’s years of research show that a treeless saddle cannot be constructed using the same principles as a treed saddle. The pommel should not be used like the pommel of a treed saddle to allow shoulder movements. Instead, a material which allows the horse to perform at its peak is used. The front pommel and the cantle of the Torsion saddles are made of a special plastic which becomes flexible with the body temperature of the horse.
The cantle, like the pommel, does not come in various sizes. One very important point to remember is that with the Torsion saddles, the rider should never sit on the cantle, hence another reason why sizing a Torsion will be different to sizing another treeless brand. The cantle comes in standard or high. The later provides a deeper seat but is only available on certain models.
Stirrup attachment: all Torsion saddles come with the JumpDefend® security system. This is a Velcro system to help you find the correct position in your saddle. And, in the case of a serious fall, the stirrup attachment will release and detach from the saddle thus decreasing the chance of being dragged. With the JumpDefend® system, you can use any types of stirrups you like as you are not limited to safety stirrups.·Torsion recommend the EZ-Rider stirrup as it gives the rider better balance.
Standard and endurance saddle bases: the endurance base allows for interchangeable inserts whilst the standard base has fixed inserts inside it. The endurance base is particularly suited to horses with high withers, crooked backs and prominent spines. Endurance bases are standard with ENDURANCE, DUO, X-traLight, DRESS/END and TREKK/END models. Endurance bases are not available with western style saddles or the Bora.
Colours: the stock standard colours are brown and black. However, other colours are available at no extra costs - unless the colours are not in stock then there might be a surcharge. Blue, yellow, black, red and green are some of the other colours you can choose to combine with black or brown, or on their own, to create your unique Torsion saddle.
