Here are profiles of some essential oils I use in my products for horses and dogs.

Bay Laurel Laurulus nobilis PHYSICAL USES: Laurel’s antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti fungal properties are used with scars, acne pimples, boils, scabies, etc. It is reportedly a tonic to the hair and scalp stimulating hair growth and aiding with dandruff.

Antispasmodic and analgesic properties make it mildly narcotic. Coupled with its sedative properties, it is used for neuritis, depression, anxiety, fear and psychosis. Its stimulating and warming properties are used to produce fire and warmth in one’s emotions, bringing awareness, courage and confidence. Fresh, strong but sweet, aromatic camphoraceous, somewhat spicy medicinal odor.

Carrot seed Daucus carota PHYSICAL USES:: Carrot Seed is fantastic for skin care (revitalizing and toning) and considered one of the best Essential Oils for Mature Skin. Carrot seed oil also assists in removing toxin and water build up in the skin giving it a fresher more firmer appearance. Carrot seed oil has a detoxifying effect on the liver and cleans the digestive system and the body as a whole. It is helpful for arthritis, gout, edema, rheumatism and the accumulation of toxins in muscles and joints. Carrot seed strengthens the mucus membranes in the nose, throat and lungs, thus has a beneficial effect on problems such as bronchitis and influenza.

Nerolina Melaleuca quinquenervia PHYSICAL USES: Nerolina Australian essential oil is a valuable blending oil with the ability to ‘lift’ ordinary aromas with small additions to the compound. In cosmetics and perfumery, Nerolina can save a lot of money as it can be successfully used as a replacement for the top grade French lavenders (Lavandula Angustifolia). It is also reputed to be useful for relief of staph infections, shingles, allergies and bronchitis.

Rose Geranium Pelargoneum Roseum PHYSICAL USES: Rose Geranium oil can be used to help in the treatment of the following: acne, bruises, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, hemorrhoids, lice, mosquito repellant, ringworm, ulcers, breast engorgement, edema, poor circulation, sore throat, tonsillitis, PMS, menopausal problems, stress and neuralgia. It’s reputation as an extremely versatile essential oil is well documented.

SAFETY WARNINGS: Non-toxic, non-irritant and generally non-sensitizing, though it can cause sensitivity in some people and due to the fact that it balances the hormonal system, it should be avoided during pregnancy.

Rosemary Verbenone rosmarinus officinalis CT verbenone PHYSICAL USES: Similar to officinalis above. Its best-known use is as facial oil for extremely dry skin. The verbenone CT is even more effective at clearing catarrh than Rosemary officinalis. It is less stimulating generally and much less of a mental stimulant, so it can be used in the evening. Rosemary (vebenone) essential oil nourishes the scalp and keeps hair looking healthy and shiny. Many users claim that it promotes hair growth, though there is not any medical evidence to support this argument. It normalizes excessive oil secretions and improves most scalp problems, particularly dandruff and seborrhea. Rosemary oil is also helpful in treating cellulite. This essential oil balances intense emotions and controls mood swings. It lifts spirits and counters depression. It assists in managing stress and overcoming stress-related disorders and nervous exhaustion.
